Triggered to Trust: Deceptions from the enemy are triggers that convince us to move in a direction of trusting him more than God. He uses the lust of the eyes to gain control in our lives with 3 triggers below. Desire conceives and impregnates us to birth worldly outcomes, which triggers us to trust something that can hurt us.

  1. Greed: Selfish desire for wealth or power. “I want what I see.” In the garden, every tree was desirable, and the one tree was set apart. But the enemy knew humans had two desires: We want control, and to be the god of our life. The tithe is also set apart as God’s. Tithing breaks the worldly desire called greed.
  2. Unbelief: Faith in anything other than God. “I believe what I see.” God setup systems on earth to bless our life and to protect us. Unbelief is when we trust things outside of God’s system and don’t obey God’s Word. If we see it for long enough, we start to believe it. We can’t believe what we see and believe God at the same time. The lust of the eye triggers trust in our own system, which creates havoc in our lives.
  3. Fear: afraid of something that appears dangerous. “I fear what I see.” Fear is a result of greed and unbelief which removes you from the protective covering of God and creates more fear. We walk outside of that covering when we’re led by the lust of the eye, and we’re triggered to trust in the world’s system.

The Good News: If we have been deceived by our desires, triggered to trust the wrong system, or find ourselves living in fear, God made a way for us! The Word tells us to repent then, turn to God, so that our sins may be wiped out. Repent means to turn from and do differently in the future.
