Faith in the delay reminds us that faith sees miracles while doubt focuses on what appears final. In the story of Lazarus, Jesus promised the sickness would not end in death, yet He delayed going. The tension in the story challenges believers to trust the promise of Jesus rather than the circumstances around them.
Key Scriptures
John 11:1–44 – The story of Lazarus being raised from the dead.
John 11:4 – Jesus declares the sickness will not end in death but will reveal God’s glory.
John 11:15 – Jesus says He is glad He was not there so the disciples may believe.
John 11:40 – “If you believe, you will see the glory of God.”
Unpacking the Message
Pastor James highlighted that Jesus loved Lazarus deeply, yet He intentionally waited two days before going to him. This reminds us that a delay does not mean God is absent or uncaring. Jesus had already declared that the sickness would not end in death but would reveal the glory of God. What looked like a delay to everyone else was actually part of a greater purpose. The disciples were hesitant to return to Judea because people had previously tried to stone Jesus, making the journey dangerous. Their fear shows how following Jesus can sometimes lead us into uncertain or uncomfortable situations, where faith requires trusting His direction even when the outcome feels risky.
By the time Jesus arrived, Lazarus had already died, and the people were grieving. To everyone around them, the situation appeared final. Yet Jesus told Martha that if she believed, she would see the glory of God. This reveals an important truth: faith often comes before the miracle. Many people want to see evidence before they believe, but Jesus calls believers to trust His promise first. When faith chooses God’s word over what circumstances appear to say, it positions us to witness His power—and the miracles God does in our lives become testimonies that lead others to believe.
