Conversation Guide – Divine Order
BIG IDEA
Altars are not only built to remember what God has done—they declare who He is and what He will do again. Praise is not a response to breakthrough; it is often the invitation that brings God into the battle. When praise costs us something, it becomes a sacrifice that aligns us with heaven and positions us for God’s power.
Key Scriptures
-
Exodus 17: 14–15 – Moses builds an altar after victory and declares “The Lord is My Banner.”
-
Judges 6 – Gideon builds an altar called “The Lord Is Peace” before peace is visible.
Unpacking the Message
In Week Two of Altars & Awe, Pastor James taught that an altar of praise is built when we choose worship before resolution. Biblical altars were declarations of God’s character and covenant faithfulness.
Praise is:
-
Expectation, not just remembrance
-
A sacrifice when it costs comfort, clarity, or emotional ease
-
A spiritual posture that invites God’s intervention
-
Alignment with heaven before circumstances shift
When praise goes first, God fights the battle. The altar of praise doesn’t just change situations—it changes us.
Questions for Personal Reflection
-
Where have I been waiting for circumstances to change before praising God?
-
What would I name an altar in this current season of my life?
-
Is God reducing my reliance on my own strength so that He receives the glory?

Application
This week, intentionally build an altar of praise:
-
Begin each morning with worship before checking your phone.
-
Verbally thank God for who He is, not just what He’s done.
-
Lift your hands in prayer as an act of surrender.
-
Declare God’s character over your current battle.
Choose one consistent practice and commit to it daily.
Group Prayer
Lord, teach us to praise You not only for what You have done, but for who You are. Help us build altars of praise in every season—especially before we see the breakthrough. Align our hearts with heaven, tear down false altars, and remind us that You are faithful from generation to generation. Amen.
