Water Baptism
WHAT IS WATER BAPTISM?
1. It is an outward sign of an inward change.
This public declaration is similar to a marriage, where you’ve already fallen in love with someone and will now declare it to the world.
2. Your old life is gone, and a new life is here.
When you go into the water, it symbolizes Christ’s death and the death of your sin. When you come out of the water, it symbolizes Christ’s resurrection and your new life in your walk with God.
3. It was part of Jesus’ last instructions.
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you.”
Matthew 28:19-20
These words conveyed some of the last instructions Jesus gave to His disciples before returning to His Father in heaven. If Jesus commanded it, we should observe it!
Water Baptism FAQs
Some other common questions:
When should I be baptized?
For everyone who has decided to follow Jesus, baptism is the next step.
What should I bring?
A bathing suit, pants or long shorts, and a towel.
Should my child get baptized?
Every child can have a personal relationship with Jesus, and in Grow Kids, we encourage them to make a decision to follow Him. We advise parents to wait until their child is asking to be water baptized because this is usually a good indication that they are ready to be baptized, and that it will be a spiritual milestone in their life. As you discern if your child is ready to be water baptized, we offer a Baptism Guide at our Kids Connect Corner as a resource for you as you discern if your child is ready to be water baptized.
